Camping La Croix du Sud: a family story in the heart of Pampelonne
Camping La Croix du Sud was founded in 1959, at a time when Saint-Tropez was still just a small fishing village. Pampelonne Beach was stretching out, wild and unspoilt, far from today’s hustle and bustle. Originally, the site was a pine forest surrounded by vineyards, bathed in sunshine and facing the sea.
It was in this exceptional natural setting that Aurel and Marguerite Schaeffer, idealists and Alsatian ecologists, imagined a different kind of campsite. Marked by the upheavals of the Second World War, they dreamed of a simple and accessible place where everyone could enjoy authentic holidays, close to nature, in a lush and soothing environment.
From the very beginning, Camping La Croix du Sud embraced an approach that respects both the environment and the spirit of holidays: friendliness, freedom, sharing and simplicity. An avant-garde vision, born at the time of the filming of And God Created Woman by Roger Vadim, starring Brigitte Bardot, which helped reveal Saint-Tropez to the world.
Today, this founding spirit lives on thanks to Marie-Christine Schaeffer and her daughter Rosa, who passionately continue the work begun over 60 years ago. Camping La Croix du Sud remains true to its original values: a family-run, natural and welcoming place, where memories are made and unforgettable holidays are shared.
